Stewart Smith

Stewart Smith has been involved in Scouting since the year 2000 and he has worked for 8 years with summer camps in both Florida and South Dakota. While working at Summer Camp at Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation, Stewart started as an Area Director, then the Camp Program Director for 2 summers and as the Summer Camp Director for 2 summers. During his time at Tanah Keeta, Stewart helped grow the program and expand what was offered at the camp.

Stewart has been working for the past 5 summers at Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch as the Summer Camp Program Director where he has helped bring in new program areas, and increased Merit Badge offerings. Over the last 5 summers the camp has successfully been using a Block Schedule for Merit Badges. Stewart is excited to take on his new role for this summer and looks forward to a great summer in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Stewart is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, a Silver Beaver Recipient and a Wood Badge staff member in his home council in Florida.

Prior to joining the Black Hills Area Council, Stewart worked as a teacher for the Saint Lucie County School District in Florida. He is a graduate of the University of Akron where he earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and History.

Stewart will serve as the Council Program Director and oversee the all of the business operations of camp. He will help guide the Camp Director, Program Director and Commissioner. He will also serve as the primary contact for the council office and council executive board.

Doug Whitcomb

Doug Whitcomb, also known as Dynamite Doug, resides in Indianapolis, IN. He brings 28 years of experience working at Camp Belzer, a day camp of the Crossroads of America Council, which serves 500 Cub Scouts a day for 7 weeks. He has served as Program Director, Scoutcraft Director, Webelos Director and normal staff member.  During the year, he serves as the Assistant Camp Ranger and lives on the property.  He returns to Medicine Mountain for his fourth season and will be back in his role as the camp Program Director..

He is a Silver Beaver Recipient, an Eagle Scout, Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and a Minisino for the Firecrafter program in his home council. He has attended 6 National Jamborees and a World Jamboree.  He is also a member of the oldest Scout Band in the United States and has served on numerous Camp Visitation teams.

In his professional life, he is a sight leader for the Early Learning Center Winding Ridge in Indianapolis, IN and is also responsible for overseeing the before and after school programs for pre-school and kindergarten.  Additionally, he is responsible for all the accreditation of the school.
