Stewart Smith has been involved in Scouting since the year 2000 and he has worked for over 14 years with summer camps in both Florida and South Dakota. While working at Summer Camp at Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation, Stewart started as an Area Director, then the Camp Program Director for 2 summers and as the Summer Camp Director for 2 summers. During his time at Tanah Keeta, Stewart helped grow the program and expand what was offered at the camp.
Stewart has been working for the past 9 summers at Medicine Mountain Scout Ranch where he started in 2015 as the Summer Camp Program Director where he has helped bring in new program areas, and increased Merit Badge offerings. Over the last 9 summers the camp has successfully been using a Block Schedule for Merit Badges. Stewart became a full time employee with the Black Hills Area Council in August of 2018 as the Council Program Director.
Stewart is a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, a Silver Beaver Recipient and has been a Wood Badge staff member from his volunteer years in Florida.
Prior to joining the Black Hills Area Council, Stewart worked as a teacher for the Saint Lucie County School District in Florida. He is a graduate of the University of Akron where he earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and minors in Drawing, Photography & History.
Stewart ,as the Council Program Director, oversees the all of the business operations of camp. He will help guide the Camp Director, Program Director and Commissioner. He will also serve as the primary contact for the council office and council executive board.
